Social Development Foundation (Trust) was founded in August, 1996 by a group of Professional Social Worker trained in Peace and Non Violence, Rural and Urban Development and other Development Studies. The organization aimed to focus on the welfare of the people by extending helping hands to the vulnerable sections of the society in the context of armed conflict in Manipur. Further the organization started to work on the issue of Climate change, Gender Justice, Protection of Environment, HIV/AIDS, Rights of Indigenous peoples and others having a goal to contribute to the SDG 2030 agenda of the United Nations.

As North Eastern States of India lies in one of the most important Biodiversity Hotspot in the world ranking at the 6th across the globe, it became an important attention for the organization to address the issue of climate change and to work for the protection of the environment and the biodiversity. At the same time, the issue of Gender and Climate Change became one of the key area of attention which need to be focused.
