(Trust) Manipur
Chullah (improved cooking stove) initiative implemented by the Social Development Foundation Trust in Manipur aims to promote clean, safe, and energy-efficient cooking practices in rural and tribal communities. The project focuses on replacing traditional open-fire stoves with improved chullah that consume less firewood and produce less smoke inside the house.
Through this initiative, the organization works closely with village communities under Chandel, Kangpokpi districtetc. to construct and demonstrate improved chullah using locally available materials. The improved stove design helps reduce indoor air pollution, protects women and children from respiratory diseases, and decreases the time spent collecting firewood. The time safe from collecting firewood and cooking helps women to engage in other income generation activities like weaving, handicraft etc. this also helps in managing household needs.
Huge numbers of firewood were used while preparing feast for the village during a festival. In order to decrease the number of firewood consumption and to preserve forest, we also implement community challah in different villages like Lainingkhul, PurukTampak, PurumKhullen under Chandel District.
