(Trust) Manipur
The Social Development Foundation Trust (SDFT), Imphal has implemented a Gender Justice programme in several communities of Manipur to promote gender equality, women's rights, and social empowerment. The programme focuses on addressing gender discrimination and strengthening the role of women in community development and decision-making.
During the programme, awareness sessions and community discussions were conducted on gender issues, patriarchal social structures, and the importance of women empowerment. Participants were encouraged to understand how traditional gender roles and patriarchy affect women's opportunities, participation, and access to resources. The discussions helped communities recognize the need for equal rights, respect, and opportunities for women.
The programme also highlighted the important role of MeiraPaibis (women torchbearers of Manipur) in protecting community welfare, maintaining social justice, and advocating for women's rights. Their contributions and experiences were shared to inspire community members, especially women and youth, to actively participate in social development and collective action.
In addition to awareness activities, SDFT organized skill development and livelihood training for women to enhance their economic independence. The training included practical activities such as mask making, soap making, candle making, and crochet making, which can help women start small income-generating activities.
Furthermore, the programme encouraged women's participation in organic farming. Women were trained in sustainable agricultural practices, organic vegetable cultivation, and kitchen gardening. This not only improves household food security but also creates opportunities for women to earn additional income while promoting environmentally friendly farming practices.
Through these combined activities, the Gender Justice programme of SDFT helps promote social awareness, economic empowerment, leadership among women, and sustainable livelihoods, contributing to a more equitable and inclusive society in Manipur.
